“Adam, Eve, & Evilian”
By Ben Bailey
Topping the medical news this week is the claim that the first human
being has been cloned. Cloning, in its basic definition, is the taking of one human’s
DNA and reproducing the exact DNA through genetics. In essence, cloning is
playing God and trying to create life. Clonaid, a genetic engineering company,
is the mind behind this ethical mess. What is even more interesting is that
extraterrestrials are actually the ones running the show, or so to speak. The
CEO and bigwigs of Clonaid come from a religious sect known as Raelians.
Raelians believe that thousands of years ago aliens created human life on earth
through genetic engineering. Rael, the leader of this sect, claims that in the
70’s little green men on a volcano in France told him that they had created
earth life. If this weren’t such a serious ethical problem, it would sound like
just another wild acid story out of Woodstock. However, there are serious
biblical concerns with cloning.
It Handicaps
Humanity.
One thing that breaks the heart of every person is to see handicapped children.
Our hearts go out to these children for their unwanted disabilities. BEWARE:
cloning will handicap before it helps. Ian Wilmut, Scottish researcher, who
cloned the first sheep Dolly, now disapproves of human cloning. He notes that
it took 276 failed attempts before Dolly was successfully cloned. Are we
willing to handicap 276 children before we get our precious clone? Rudolf
Janeisch, Researcher at MIT’s Whitehead Institute for Biological research says,
“It is not responsible at this stage to even consider the cloning of humans…”
& it is “essentially using humans as guinea pigs, and one shouldn't do
this." Even if Eve seems to be healthy at birth, she may not be later.
Most animals that have been cloned have later developed heart, liver and lung
problems that have debilitated them. The Bible teaches that the harming of
children, and especially unborn children is sinful (Prov. 6:16-19). The same
biblical principles that teach against aborting an unborn child would also
teach us that handicapping children before they are born is wrong.
It Plays
Deity. Cloning
is sinful because it is playing God. God is the sole creator of all human life
(Gen. 1:1; 26-27; 2:7). It is God who creates our spirit within us (Heb. 12:9;
Zech 12:1). God created man perfect and without flaw the first time, and most
humans are born that same way today. Why do we need to play God and make a clone?
What will it really profit us? Some say that cloning will help prevent and cure
disease. Really this is not solving our problems. Maybe we should start looking
for the source of the problem and eliminate it instead of remaking human
genetics. If man would stop putting so many harmful things into his body, we
would not have the problems we do today. Every time man has tried to play God
it has resulted in total disaster!!
It Promotes
Immorality. Just imagine what will happen if cloning actually does work. What would
cloning do to marriage, sex and procreation as God has set it up? If cloning
works, man will no longer need to procreate naturally, marriage will definitely
be further ignored, and the beauty of sexual love will be abandoned for a
one-night fling. Is this really what our nation needs right now? We don’t need
more problems and more immorality. We need more people who will stand behind
the Bible and condemn immoral medical ethics.
May God give us the courage to stamp out these problems before they destroy us!
Truly, the birth of baby Eve is not a medical breakthrough; it is the working
of evil. Sadly, this child has been called by the beautiful first name of
woman, Eve. Maybe we should change it to
the EVILIAN.
