The Blessed Man

The idea of being blessed has become a common phrase and buzzword in our society.  Just think about it.  We even say bless you when someone sneezes.  We bless people we do not know and sometimes we even want God to bless people whom He will not bless because of their lifestyle.  However, the Psalmist had two great insights into enjoying the truly blessed life.   Let us notice two characteristics of the blessed life.

Avoid the Path of Sin.  “How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scoffers!” (Ps. 1:1).  Notice the backward progression of sin.  First, a man is walking in sin, then he is standing in sin and then he is completely engulfed by sin sitting right in the middle of it.  Most people do not become blatant sinners overnight.  It is a slow progress beginning with the degradation of one’s morals and then follows by an ungodly lifestyle.  If we really want to enjoy the blessed life, we must flee from every appearance of evil (1 Thes. 5:22).  Avoid evil at all costs!

Admire the Law of God.  “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night” (Ps. 1:2).  The man who has both feet firmly planted on the ground and is producing fruit to God is the man who loves the law of God (Ps. 1:3).  If I really want to enjoy life, then I must follow the perfect law of God.
