The Importance of Truth
Truth is invaluable in every part of life. On the job, employers want their employees to be truthful and honest with them. In marriage, truth and faithfulness are essential to lasting relationships. The truth is also essentially important to a right relationship with God. Notice what the Bible teaches about the truth. In the long ago, the wise sage said, “Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding” (Prov. 23:23). It has rightly been said that whatever price the truth cost you, it was dirt cheap compared to its inherent value! Concerning the truth Jesus said, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). The truth on human equality sets people free from slavery. The truth on gender, social, and financial equality has been a long standing truth that has led our country to the great state it is in. The same principle applies to Christianity. The only way to be free from the slavery of sin is to know the truth by obeying it (Mt. 7:21). We live in a very pessimistic and skeptical world that asks the same question Pilate did, “What is Truth?” (John 18:38). The truth is not a mystery or something unfathomable. The truth is very simply the Word of God, the Bible. Jesus said, “Sanctify them by your truth, Your word is Truth” (John 17:17). Dear friend, have you realized the value of the truth in your life? If the truth sets me free and God’s word is truth, then we must obey the word of God to be free. The Bible says that Jesus is the author of eternal salvation to all those who obey Him (Heb. 5:8-9). Have you obeyed the gospel by believing in Jesus (John 8:24) repenting of your sin (Luke 13:3) confessing Jesus as Savior (Rom. 10:10) being baptized for the remission of your sins (Acts 2:38) and living faithful to the Lord until the day you die (Rev. 2:10)? May God help each of us to realize the importance of truth. |
