Daily Christian Living

Introduction:

1.      If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?

2.      Too many people claim an affiliation with the church when it is comfortable, but fail to really commit to Jesus every day.

3.      In the church our sanctuary has become our cemetery (Jer 7:4).

4.      To counteract this idea we must live for Jesus every day!

I.  The Requirements for Daily Christian Living (Lk 9:23).

A.     Desire to live daily—a strong will to do God’s will

1.      Do you really want to do God’s will (Jn 7:17, Acts 9:6, 16:30)?

2.      Do you love the Lord (Mk 12:30; I Jn 4:8)?

B.     Denial of Self (Rom 12:1-2, Gal 2:20, 2 Cor 5:14-15, Phil 1:21, 2 Cor 8:5, I Cor 15:31, Matt 26:39).  Denial of self means I am willing to push selfish wants out of the way and do what God wants:

·        Maybe you used to drink (Eph 5:18).

·        Maybe you used to curse (Eph 5:29; Col 3:8).

·        Maybe you haven’t been used to attending faithfully (Rev 2:10, Lk 14:18).

C.    Follow Jesus (I Pet 2:21, I Cor 11:1, Rev 14:4, Acts 4:13, Jn 2:5, Jn 10:27).

II.  5 Characteristics of daily Xian living

A.     Daily Bible Study—(Acts 17:11, Jn 8:31-32, 2 Tim 2:15, Prov 15:28, Heb 2:1-3, I Pet 3:15, Eph 5:17, I Tim 4:7-8, 15-16).

1.      If you had to stand before the Lord and tell Him how often you study your Bible, many of us would be embarrassed (Heb 4:13).

2.      Our spiritual vitality must be based on God’s Word (Ps 119:11-12, 105; Rev 12:11; Jer 10:23; 2 Pet 1:3, Rom 1:16).

3.      Bible Ignorance results in spiritual destruction (Hosea 4:6)l

B.     Daily Evangelism (Acts 5:42, Matt 28:18-20, Mk 16:15, Col 1:28, I Pet 2:9, Acts 8:4, 2 Cor 4:13).

C.    Daily Prayer (I Thes 5:17, Ps 86:3).  We desperately need to be a more prayerful people (Lk 18:8, Mk 1:35, I Jn 5:16).

D.     Daily Exhortation (Heb 3:12-13).

E.     Daily Benevolence (Acts 6:1, James 1:27).

III.  Motivation for Daily Christian Living (Acts 17:31, Matt 24:36).

A.     If there are two sure things in the world it is:

1.      The Lord is coming—(Jn 14:3, I Thes 4:16-17).

2.      The world will end (Matt 24:35, 2 Pet 3:10).

B.     Are you ready (James 4:14)?

C.    If not, then get ready by being obedient to God’s will (Lk 6:46, Heb 5:8-9, Matt 7:21).
