“In Memory of Me”

 

 

I.  The Lord’s Supper—It’s Reverence (1 Cor. 11:20-22).

 

A.      Reverence in purpose (vs. 20).

1.  To worship God (Jn. 4:24; Ps. 34:3; Rev. 19:10)

2.  To exalt the Savior (1 Cor. 15:57; 1 Pet. 2:24, Isa. 53:5, 2 Cor. 5:21)

 

B.       Reverence for others (vs. 21).

1.  What chaos this must have been in the first century!

2.  No place for talking, laughing,  writing notes, playing, or daydreaming during such an holy event.

 

II.  The Lord’s Supper—It’s Requirements (vv. 23-25).

 

A.      In Principle.

1.      Always do exactly what God says (1 Cor. 4:6; 2 Jn. 9; Rev. 22:18; Prov. 30:6).

2.      The tragedy of not doing exactly what God says (Lev. 10:1ff1 Sam. 15:22-23).

 

B.       In Practice.

1.      Bread=Broken Body  (vs. 23-24)

2.      Cup=Blood

 

C.       In Practicality.

 

1.  Read passages about the suffering of Christ (Isa. 53, Ps. 22, Matt. 27).

2.  Read your favorite songs about Christ’s sacrifice “I Gave My Life for Thee”, “Night with Ebon Pinion”

 

III.  The Lord’s Supper—It’s Regularity (vs. 26).

 

A.      Every Sunday—Sabbath (Ex. 20:8; Acts 20:7).

 

B.       Every Sunday in the first Century (Acts 2:42; 20:7; 1 Cor. 11:26; 2 Cor. 16:1ff).

 

C.     Until He Comes (vs. 26, the time frame)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

IV.  The Lord’s Supper—It’s Remembrance (vv. 24-26)

 

A.      The importance of reminders in Scripture (2 Pet. 1:15, 2 Pet. 3:1; Heb. 10:31)

 

B.       Remember My Broken Body (vs. 24;1 Cor. 11:23—All that happen to Jesus Body).

 

C.     Remember My shed blood (vs. 25; Matt. 26:28; Zech. 13:1-2; Jn. 19:34).

 

 

 

 

V.  The Lord’s Supper—It’s Reflection (vv. 27-29). 

 

A.    Reflect on the manner (vs. 27 Prov. 23:7; Why am I doing this )

 

B.     Reflect on Myself (vs. 28; 2 Cor. 13:5; )

 

C.     Reflect on the Messiah’s Body (vs. 29).
